THE LOWDOWN
GRANADA
Granada were relegated from La Liga in 2022 and after a poor start to the 2022/23 Segunda campaign, Aitor Karanka was sacked and replaced by the far more tactically proactive Paco Lopez. Lopez led the Andalusians in a very impressive second-half of the season in which they eventually won the second-tier title.
Despite those impressive performances, they did begin the season as one of the heavy favourites to be immediately relegated back down. They started with a 3-1 loss at Atletico Madrid on the opening day before a 2-0 defeat at home to Rayo in which they went down to ten men. Since then they have been involved in a couple of thrillers, getting past Mallorca by three goals to two and then losing 5-3 away to Real Sociedad.
GIRONA
Following promotion back to the top-flight of Spanish football in 2022, Girona have enjoyed an extremely impressive return to life at the top table. The Catalans, under the impressive and attacking management of Michel, narrowly missed out on UEFA Europa Conference League qualification and performed in a manner not necessarily representative of the generally dour and defensive modern day Spanish game.
Only the top five scored more and bottom four conceded more than Girona last season and, after four games of this campaign, they have collected a very impressive ten points. They began with a 1-1 draw in the Basque Country away to Real Sociedad on the opening day before three successive victories against Getafe, Sevilla and Las Palmas.
THE TEAM NEWS

Paco Lopez has two irritations for this weekend with Jesus Vallejo and Raul Torrente both injury doubts but he will hope to be able to name an unchanged side for this weekend.

GIRONA
Michel has several injuries to deal with, such as Borja Garcia and Toni Villa, but he should still be able to name an unchanged side for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Gazzaniga; Martinez, Lopez, Blind, Gutierrez; Garcia; Tsygankov, Herrera, Martin, Savio; Stuani

THE PREDICTION
On paper these two sides that would be evenly matched and fighting down towards the bottom end of the table having both been recently promoted. However, on the pitch, the levels are slightly different, albeit Granada are beginning to get into the swing of things in La Liga, scoring six times in their last two matches. That, combined with the aforementioned high scoring record and nature of the visitors, means this weekend’s clash could well be a fun one with both teams scoring very likely.
