THE LOWDOWN

GIRONA

With Real Madrid dropping points at both Rayo Vallecano and Valencia in the last few weeks, the door was opened for Girona to propel themselves right back into the title picture but the Catalans instead have fallen away and will now focus on still achieving a historic and remarkable goal of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

Michel’s over achievers come into this one on the back of being beaten by a goal to nil in the Balearic Islands by Real Mallorca, last weekend. They have now managed just one win in their last five matches in La Liga with that one victory coming by three goals to nil against a struggling Rayo Vallecano side, requiring two second-half stoppage-time strikes by Manchester City-bound Savio.

OSASUNA

Under the management of Jago Arrasate, it would have taken a lot for many supporters to be content and excited for the end of this season after reaching the Copa del Rey final and earning UEFA Europa Conference League qualification with a top seven finish last season but their generally underwhelming campaign could still finish with a flourish.

The Pamplona-based outfit come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat of Deportivo Alaves in their most recent outing, last weekend, thanks to a 76th minute strike by in-form Croatian international striker, Ante Budimir. That victory means Osasuna have collected ten points from their last four matches in La Liga.

THE TEAM NEWS

QUESTIONABLE:

OSASUNA

Osasuna have no definite absentees for their trip to Catalonia this weekend but their right-back, Ruben Pena, is a doubt for this one.

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Ruben Pena (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Now then, a few months ago this one would have appeared to be a bit of a foregone conclusion as Girona would have expected to just sweep their faltering opposition from Navarre to the side. However, with Girona slipping and getting a little anxious about finishing in the top four, Osasuna will be confident of posing some genuine threat to their shaky back-line. The Catalans’ 27 matches so far this season have consisted of 90 goals and an entertaining match for the neutral in which both teams score would appear likely.
