THE LOWDOWN
CADIZ
It has been a genuinely awful campaign for Cadiz and that continued in the second round of the Copa del Rey in midweek. The Andalusians went to Arandina, of the fourth-tier, and fell behind in the 5th minute of the match but even after Fede’s 34th minute equaliser, Sergio’s side went and lost the game in the second-half.
That loss has compounded some dreadful form in La Liga whereby they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places. They have managed no victories in their last 11 matches since winning two of their opening four games and they come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Celta on Monday evening.
OSASUNA
Coached by Jago Arrasate, Osasuna were always going to find this a difficult campaign as they tried to repeat last season’s excellent campaign in which they finished seventh, qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League, as well as getting into the final of the Copa del Rey, where they were eventually beaten by Real Madrid at La Cartuja in Seville.
The Pamplona-based club begin the 16th match day of the 2023/24 La Liga season sitting in the bottom-half of the table but with a hefty six-point gap to the bottom three and the relegation places. They come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in midweek, extending their winless run of form to five matches.

THE PREDICTION
It has been an underwhelming campaign for both of these teams for different reasons so far. Cadiz begin the match day sitting just outside of the bottom three by three points but they appear simply destined to fall into the danger zone at some stage. Osasuna are not performing to that poor a level but the Navarre club will be a little disappointed to have dropped off so much this season. They remain a better side for this one, though, and are the firm favourites.
