THE LOWDOWN

ATLETICO MADRID

After the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, it had appeared as though we were heading into the final few months of the Diego Simeone reign at the Metropolitano but, instead, Atleti put together a very fun run of form, which included a tweak in their style of football to being quite a bit more adventurous.

Atletico Madrid have enjoyed a fairly bizarre start to this season. It has been a generally very strong beginning to the campaign, following on from a strong end to last season, but a 3-0 loss to Valencia a couple of weeks ago has overshadowed a fine beginning. Their 2-0 win in Pamplona against Osasuna in midweek means they come into this one on the back of back-to-back victories.

CADIZ

In each season since their promotion to La Liga a few years ago, Cadiz have been one of the red hot favourites to be relegated. However, in each season, the Andalusians have managed to survive and they did so once again on the final day of the previous campaign, under the management of Sergio, who remains in charge for this year.

They will be hoping not to leave it as fine as they have done of late and have started with just two defeats in their opening seven matches as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table. They, though, have also managed just one win since they defeated newly-promoted Alaves on the opening day of the campaign by a goal to nil.

THE TEAM NEWS

ATLETICO MADRID

Diego Simeone is relying on youngsters off the bench with several injury concerns and now he has to deal with a suspension to in-form striker Alvaro Morata.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Oblak; Molina, Witsel, Gimenez, Hermoso, Lino; Llorente, Koke, Saul; Griezmann, Depay

UNAVAILABLE: Morata (Suspended), Barrios (Injured), Lemar (Injured), De Paul (Injured), Soyuncu (Injured), Vitolo (Injured), Reinildo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

CADIZ

Cadiz have no fresh injury concerns and just remain without the long-term absentees of Fede, Juan Cala and Brian Ocampo for their visit to the capital this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Ledesma; Carcelen, L.Hernandez, Fali, J.Hernandez; Alejo, Escalante, Ruben Alcaraz, Machis; Roger, Gomez

UNAVAILABLE: Fede (Injured), Cala (Injured), Ocampo (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Now, this one should really be a bit of a foregone conclusion on paper but Atletico Madrid are genuinely struggling to get 11 first-team players out onto the park. Despite their struggles, Los Rojiblancos have maintained some impressive form and will be keen for a low intensity match in this one ahead of their UEFA Champions League group stage encounter with Feyenoord in midweek. Cadiz will ‘park the bus’ at the Metropolitano so backing a no fuss low-scoring home win seems sensible.

TIP: ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
