THE LOWDOWN
ATHLETIC BILBAO
Many neutral spectators and even Athletic supporters were a little sceptical as to whether Athletic Club would be able to cope with a major hangover last weekend. That hangover was brought about by the wild celebrations in the city of Bilbao after they defeated Real Mallorca on penalties at La Cartuja in Seville a couple of weeks ago to win the Copa del Rey.
Well, they coped with those celebrations by sharing a 1-1 draw with Villarreal at San Mames last week. Athletic scored in the 66th minute via Spain international Oihan Sancet and were the generally dominant side against ten-man Villarreal with Santi Comesana sent off. However, Dani Parejo scored a 95th minute penalty to equalise for the Yellow Submarine.
GRANADA
It has been a really, really difficult campaign for Granada so far this season as they get set for an immediate return down to the second-tier of Spanish football. The Andalusians head into the final seven games of the 2023/24 campaign sitting 11 points adrift of safety but they did manage just their third win of the campaign last weekend.
Up against Deportivo Alaves at Los Carmenes last weekend, first-half strikes from Myrto Uzuni and Lucas Boye completed a 2-0 victory for Granada. They are on their third manager of the campaign with Jose Ramon Sandoval in charge down in Andalusia after the sackings of both Paco Lopez and Alexander Medina.
THE TEAM NEWS
ATHLETIC BILBAO
Ernesto Valverde is blessed with no injury concerns or suspension issues for this weekend so he will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this one.

QUESTIONABLE:
GRANADA
There is only one availability concern for Granada this weekend as Oscar Melendo is a major doubt for the Andalusians but they have no definite absentees.
PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Batalla; Mendez, Angel, Miquel, Neva; Pellistri, Gerard Gumbau, Ruiz, Jozwiak; Boye, Uzuni
UNAVAILABLE:
QUESTIONABLE: Melendo (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
This is a really one-sided affair at the San Mames this weekend. Ernesto Valverde has created an Athletic side that are extremely entertaining to watch with the likes of Oihan Sancet, Inaki Williams, Nico Williams and Gorka Guruzeta in attack. The Basque club have already enjoyed a successful campaign but will still be hunting both Atletico Madrid and Girona in the top four. Despite Granada’s victory last week, they are a really week side and a comfortable Athletic victory, especially with their home advantage, is to be expected for this one.
