THE LOWDOWN
ALMERIA
Following promotion to the Spanish top-flight back in 2022, Almeria survived relegation by a very narrow margin, finishing 17th and just one point above the bottom three and the relegation places last season. They were involved in one of the most competitive battles ever, though, with Real Valladolid being relegated, despite having reached the 40-point mark.
After the sale of forward El Bilal Toure over the summer, Almeria were always expected to struggle this season and it does look like an uphill battle for the Andalusians. Their 5-1 loss at the hands of regional rivals Sevilla in midweek means they are rock-bottom having collected just two points from their opening seven matches so far this season.
GRANADA
Mid-way through last season, following their 2022 La Liga relegation, Granada parted ways with underperforming manager Aitor Karanka and replaced him with Paco Lopez. Paco Lopez, a far more proactive coach, led the Andalusians to an impressive campaign and eventually helped them gain automatic promotion by winning the second-tier title.
They, though, will have inevitably viewed this season as a difficult one with avoiding relegation the main goal for success. Those fears have been realised with just one win in their opening six matches as they languish down in the bottom three and the relegation places. They did manage to earn a 1-1 draw with regional rivals Real Betis in midweek.

THE PREDICTION
These two regional rivals in Andalusia will view this as a major opportunity to not just kick start some sort of form but also a chance to really put their opposition into the mire. Both will likely continue to endure a difficult and challenging campaign but both will still seek the chance to realise some sort of form. They are the bottom two teams in La Liga but haven’t necessarily struggled for goals and both have conceded 18 apiece so far so a high-scoring game in Almeria seems quite likely.
