ALAVES PREVIEW: ESTABLISHING THEMSELVES

Last season, Alaves gained promotion to La Liga and quickly established themselves in the middle-of-the-table in the Spanish top-flight, despite the fact that Luis Garcia Plaza was heavily linked with being sacked for a large part of the early stages of the campaign. He was eventually kept in place and they squeezed into the top-half.

The Basque club have started the 2024/25 La Liga season with two victories, a draw and two defeats in their opening five matches in what has been a steady, stabilising start to the campaign. They come into this one on the back of an entertaining but frustrating 3-2 loss in Catalonia against Espanyol.

SEVILLA PREVIEW: BUILDING ON IT

In each of the last two seasons, with Sevilla becoming a bit of a mess off the pitch, they have required three permanent managers to eventually drag themselves away from the bottom three and the relegation places. After a tricky start to this season for new boss Garcia Pimienta, the Andalusians did manage a much-needed win at the weekend.

After beginning the season with two draws and two defeats in their opening four matches as they began to languish towards the bottom end of the table once again, Sevilla pulled off a desperately needed 1-0 victory over Getafe last weekend in which Jesus Navas’ 23rd minute strike was enough to separate the two sides.

ALAVES TEAM NEWS: CAN REMAIN UNCHANGED

The home team are without just one first-team player due to injury or suspension for this weekend with Equatorial Guinea international Jesus Owono being sidelined.

That does mean that Alaves can name an unchanged eleven for this weekend but it would seem unlikely given the fact their previous encounter saw them lose away at Espanyol.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Antonio Sivera; Nahuel Tenaglia, Abqar, Sedlar, Manu Sanchez; Jon Guridi, Antonio Blanco; Carlos Vicente, Stoichkov, Conechny; Kike

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Jesus Owono (Injured)

SEVILLA TEAM NEWS: STILL PLENTY OF ISSUES

Unsurprisingly, defender Marcao is once again out injured for the visitors alongside fellow defender Loic Bade as well as the likes of Albert Sambi Lokonga and Suso.

Key man and emerging youngster Juanlu Sanchez was sent off last week so he is out suspended, whilst last week’s match winner Jesus Navas is also a doubt.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Nyland; Jose Angel Carmona, Nianzou, Kike Salas; Gonzalo Montiel, Gudelj, Sow, Adria Pedrosa; Peque, Isaac Romero, Ejuke

UNAVAILABLE: Marcao (Injured), Bade (Injured), Lokonga (Injured), Juanlu (Suspended), Suso (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Jesus Navas (Injured)

ALAVES VS SEVILLA PREDICTION

The expectation does generally remain that Alaves are expected to be down towards the bottom end of the table but they finished in mid-table last season and are already going at mid-table form this time around. Sevilla, on the other hand, are far more unpredictable because performances have probably actually been improved this year but they have still struggled for goals and points. The likelihood appears to be a low-scoring encounter that features fewer than three or four goals.

ALAVES VS SEVILLA TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
