It would not be an unfair or unreasonable view to suggest that these two sides would have expected to be involved in La Liga’s relegation battle throughout the campaign but only one of them have performed to a poor standard in the opening couple of months.

ALAVES PREVIEW: BATTLING BASQUE

Following their promotion back to the top-flight in 2023, Luis Garcia Plaza managed to confidently and calmly keep Deportivo Alaves up and then even push them into a top-half finish by the end of the campaign – despite the fact there were reports mid-way through the campaign that he was on the verge of the sack.

In their opening nine matches of this campaign, they have once again be steady with three victories and a draw in La Liga but they did head into the October international break on the back of a 3-0 defeat at home to Barcelona a couple of weeks ago, which was their third successive loss.

REAL VALLADOLID PREVIEW: NEEDING SOMETHING

Owner and chairman Ronaldo managed to keep Uruguayan coach Paulo Pezzolano in charge of Real Valladolid over the summer and that was a big piece of business after they gained automatic promotion back to the top-flight last season. However, it has been a miserable start to the campaign ever since then.

The visitors began the season with a slender defeat of Espanyol at the Jose Zorrilla on the opening weekend of the campaign and they have now since endured an eight-match winless run of form as they remain firmly in the bottom three. Their most recent outing saw them comfortably defeated by Leganes by three goals to one in a friendly.

ALAVES TEAM NEWS: FULLY FIT AND AVAILABLE

Luis Garcia Plaza is blessed with what is a fully fit and available squad for this weekend with no injury concerns or suspension issues as they welcome Valladolid.

The home team will therefore be able to name an unchanged eleven but there will be a temptation to change for this one after three successive defeats.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Antonio Sivera; Nahuel Tenaglia, Abqar, Santiago Mourino, Manu Sanchez; Ander Guevara, Antonio Blanco; Carlos Vicente, Stoichkov, Rebbach; Toni Martinez

REAL VALLADOLID TEAM NEWS: FINDING THE ELEVEN

Paulo Pezzolano has been guilty of chopping and changing too much this season as they search for some sort of winning formula to make themselves remotely competitive.

Brazilian defender Lucas Rosa is missing through suspension for this weekend and his fellow defender, former Valencia man Cenk Ozkacar, still among the injury doubts.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Hein; Lucas Perez, Juma Bah, David Torres, Kenedy; Mario Martin, Cumart, Amallah; Ndiaye, Juanmi Latasa, Darwin Machis

UNAVAILABLE: Rosa (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Ozkacar (Injured), Javi Sanchez (Injured)

ALAVES VS REAL VALLADOLID PREDICTION

Deportivo Alaves do have the archetypal Basque methods of being quite direct and almost traditionally English-like in their style of football. That said, though, their directness makes for interesting matches with their nine games so far this season consisting of 26 goals. Real Valladolid are a poor side and the pressure is mounting on Paulo Pezzolano. With their home advantage, Alaves are favourites for this one.
