ALAVES PREVIEW: EXCELLENT MIDWEEK

In their first season back in the top-flight, Deportivo Alaves performed well to steer clear of the bottom three and the relegation places, despite reports that Luis Garcia Plaza would be sacked mid-way through the campaign. The Basque club will be seeking to avoid second season syndrome this year.

The home team started the 2024/25 La Liga campaign with a 2-1 defeat in Galicia against Celta Vigo at Balaidos before then sharing a goalless draw against Real Betis, down to ten men for the final few minutes of that game. They did then, though, produce a remarkable performance to down Real Sociedad by two goals to one in San Sebastian.

LAS PALMAS PREVIEW: EXCELLENT MIDWEEK

Over the summer, Las Palmas lost the manager that took them up and kept them up with Garcia Pimienta departing for Sevilla. He has been replaced by a manager in Luis Carrion with similar tactical principles and philosophy with an intent to try and get the ball down and play in a La Masia-style way.

The Canary Islanders come into this one on the back of an excellent performance against Real Madrid in midweek as they shared a 1-1 draw in a game in which they led and very nearly pinched all three points late on. Prior to that, they had started with a 2-2 draw against Sevilla before being beaten 2-1 by newly-promoted Leganes in the capital.

ALAVES VS LAS PALMAS PREDICTION

Both of these sides will be quite content with how their seasons have gone thus far. Alaves will simply be aiming to avoid the drop and their Basque derby win against Real Sociedad was a major boost after a couple of underwhelming performances. Las Palmas will be frustrated not to have pulled off an impressive defeat of Madrid in midweek but they do have a clear attacking threat. We may be in for a surprise thriller this weekend.
