THE LOWDOWN

ALAVES

After gaining promotion to the top-flight last season, Deportivo Alaves endured a difficult first-half to this season and at the turn of the year there were lots of rumours that Luis Garcia Plaza would be sacked soon. However, the Basque club almost immediately improved in terms of results and they head into the final month of the season pretty much safe in La Liga.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat of Atletico Madrid in their most recent outing at the Mendizorroza last weekend with a 15th minute goal from Carlos Benavidez before Luis Rioja scored in second-half stoppage-time. That impressive victory ended a three-match losing streak.

CELTA VIGO

For much of the campaign, Celta Vigo’s performances were a lot better than their results with their results remaining firmly in the relegation battle for much of the campaign. However, due to their performances, they stuck with former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez but they finally parted company with him last month.

He was replaced by Celta B coach Claudio Giraldez and they have steadied slightly but are trying to hold off an improving Cadiz side. The Galicians come into this one on the back of a 4-1 hammering of Las Palmas last weekend with the Canary Islanders taking the lead but then an Iago Aspas brace followed by goals from Williot Swedberg and Tasos Douvikas turned the game around.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these sides have struggled through a season in which they have both been reliant on fairly defensive and cautious approaches in their style of play. For example, Alaves have managed to score just 28 goals in La Liga with only Cadiz, Mallorca and Rayo scoring fewer than them. Celta were majorly boosted by scoring four last week but have also struggled for goals throughout then campaign and are without Jorgen Strand Larsen for this one. As a result, under 2.5 goals seems very likely.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
