St. Johnstone lost a pretty vital match at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, with a 3-1 defeat at Ross County putting seven points between them. Rock-bottom Dundee FC have a game in-hand over St. Johnstone, too, and with this home tie against Rangers likely to go only one way they could find themselves at the foot one again before too long. Travelling Rangers have struggled to put teams away in recent weeks, although plenty of that must be down to the sheer exertions of their joyous 6-4 on aggregate victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League. They were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Motherwell on Sunday but damage was limited thanks to leaders Celtic also dropping points and they will be keen to rectify that here with a solid performance.
