THE LOWDOWN

BOAVISTA

As one of just two sides, alongside Belenenses, to have won the Primeira Liga title outside of ‘Os Tres Grandes’ (‘The Big Three’), Boavista are a well-respected side in Portugal’s top-flight but it has been a while since they have had much to shout about. This season, though, looks like a year where they may be challenging for European qualification once again.

Boavista began this season with a thrilling come from behind 3-2 win against reigning champions Benfica with two goals in second-half stoppage-time. Since then they enjoyed a further three victories and a draw until their unbeaten start to the season was ended by an impressive Braga side who defeated them by four goals to one last weekend.

FAMALICAO

Going against the grain in Portuguese football is not very common. It is a usually defensive and reactive style of football but Famalicao have tried to do things differently both on and off the pitch. Joao Pedro Sousa is an innovative coach with a young squad that had another refresh of the squad with young players over the summer.

The home team come into this on the back of a slender 1-0 win at home to Arouca in a fiery encounter, last weekend. Famalicao have suffered just one defeat so far this season as they seek to challenge for UEFA Europa Conference League qualification, having begun to look like they may challenge last year.

THE PREDICTION

Boavista have, on the whole, started this season excellently well. Their fine start to the season came a little undone last weekend as they were hammered by Braga. Defeats against the teams from towards the top are an inevitability but that should not stop them targeting a top six spot. Formalicao will also hope to challenge those top six spots, albeit with fewer expectations. These have been to of the more proactive sides this season so both teams scoring seems quite likely.
