THE TEAM NEWS

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN

  • PSG travelled to their training base in Shenzhen last week and this is the second of their three scheduled fixtures during the tour having already lost to Internazionale on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Macau on Saturday.
  • Neymar and Presnel Kimpembe have stayed at the PSG training base in Shenzhen as they work on their fitness so they will not be involved whilst Marco Verratti has been rested due to a thigh strain. Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Angel Di Maria, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Leandro Paredes are all expected to be absent due to linking up late with the squad after international duty over the summer.
  • This is their final friendly match of the pre-season as the French Ligue 1 champions will face Coupe de France champions Rennes in the 2019 French Champions Trophy on Saturday in Shenzen.

SYDNEY FC

  • Sydney FC played a couple of low key domestic friendly matches to start their pre-season and are now stepping up their preparations several notches with a match against French giants PSG.
  • The 2018-19 A-League champions flew to China on Saturday with a 20-man squad including key summer signings Kosta Barbarouses, Alexander Baumjohann and Luke Brattan.
  • Some of the players and staff were struck down with a sickness bug following the flight from Australia and as a result Michael Zullo and Patrick Flotmann are unlikely to take part whereas club captain Alex Wilkinson and Brandon O’Neill have shown some improvement and are thought to be in contention to feature.

THE PREDICTION

PSG continue their preparations for the new season with a match against Australian A-League champions Sydney FC, who may not be at full strength due to a handful of players struggling with illness, but whoever features for them will be well-motivated to put on a good performance against the French champions. PSG have travelled to China with a strong squad but are still missing some of their first-choice players for this game, and they are expected to field a stronger starting XI for the Champions Trophy encounter against Rennes on Saturday. The Parisian giants are still expected to have enough strength on the pitch however, to fairly comfortably see off the challenge of their Australian opponents.
