THE TEAM NEWS

TOLUCA

  • Toluca have won just one of their last five Clausura matches but it seems as if they are trending in the right direction, posting two straight games without a loss. They are coming off a 1-1 draw at Queretaro and also won their most recent home match, 2-0 against Monterrey.
  • Toluca are expected to be at full strength entering this match, so the manager Jose Manuel de la Torre will be able to field his Best XI available.

Expected starting XI: Alfredo Talavera; Luis Donaldo Hernandez, Jonathan Maidana, Adrian Mora, Anibal Chala; William, Javier Guemez; Felipe Pardo, Leonardo Fernandez, Giovanny Leon; Michael Estrada

ATLAS

  • Atlas’ season keeps getting worse after every week, and they are coming off a 2-1 loss in the Clasico Tapatio against Chivas at home. No other team in the league has lost more matches than Atlas this season, as they have dropped seven of their nine Clausura matches to date.
  • Hugo Nervo has been ruled out after being sent off last week, while Jesus Angulo and Anderson Santamaria are both long-term absentees due to injury. This means the team will be depleted on the defensive side of the ball.

Expected starting XI: Camilo Vargas; Jose Abella, Diego Barbosa, German Conti, Ismael Govea; Angel Marquez, Lorenzo Reyes; Edson Rivera, Luciano Acosta, Marcelo Correa; Ignacio Jeraldino

THE PREDICTION

Toluca have been under-performing all season long but they might be set for a turnaround after going undefeated in each of their last two league matches. Atlas have been struggling badly both at home and away, but their worst results have come on the road since they have lost their last three road matches and have not scored in the past two. Those struggles will continue here, as Toluca shouldn’t have major problems to secure the three points.
