THE TEAM NEWS

TIJUANA

  • Tijuana have been one of the worst teams in the competition and the results back that up, as they are coming off three straight losses following their 4-2 defeat at Cruz Azul in the previous match. Their playoff chances seem to be fading away despite the fact there are eight games left in the regular season.
  • Kevin Balanta has been listed as questionable after picking up a knock the last time out. They do not have confirmed absentees and Miguel Barbieri could be set to return following a one-game absence through suspension.

Expected starting XI: Miguel Gibran Lajud; Vladimir Lorona, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, Miguel Barbieri, Aldo Cruz; Kevin Balanta (Christian Rivera), Jose Ignacio Rivero; Angel Sepulveda (Miller Bolanos), Alexis Castro, Mauro Lainez; Erick “Cubo” Torres

PACHUCA

  • “Inconsistency” could be a word to define Pachuca’s Clausura season thus far, but they seem to be trending in a positive direction over the last few weeks. Following a 1-0 home win over Santos Laguna, Los Tuzos have extended their undefeated streak to four matches (W3, D1).
  • Los Tuzos should be heavily depleted due to several absentees ahead of this contest. Emmanuel Garcia Vaca, Eugenio Pizzuto, Pablo Lopez and Victor Mora have all been ruled out due to injury, although Garcia Vaca is back in training and could return quite soon.

Expected starting XI: Oscar Ustari; Kevin Alvarez, Gustavo Cabral, Oscar Murillo, Miguel Angel Tapias; Erick Aguirre, Jorge Daniel Hernandez, Rubens Sambueza; Romario Ibarra, Franco Jara, Kazim

THE PREDICTION

Xolos de Tijuana have been downright awful this season and, aside from losing three straight matches, they have gone eight straight games without a win in league play (D3, L5). Pachuca, on the other hand, are riding a good streak of results and seem to be poised towards clinching a playoff berth while also featuring the second-best defensive record in the competition so far with just nine goals conceded. Pachuca’s record away from home has not been good (W1, L3), but they will take advantage of Tijuana’s issues to earn the win on the road.
