THE TEAM NEWS

TIGRES UANL

  • Tigres are coming off a 2-1 away defeat to Cruz Azul, and that negative result extended their losing run to two games while dropping three of their last four Liga MX contests. Los Felinos are in a disappointing 13th place on the standings with only seven points.
  • Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti’s men could be slightly depleted ahead of this game. Eduardo Vargas continues to deal with a thigh injury and he has been ruled out, while two defenders such as Jorge Torres Nilo and Diego Reyes have both been listed as questionable.

Expected starting XI: Nahuel Guzman; Luis Alfonso Rodriguez, Carlos Salcedo, Francisco Meza, Jesus Duenas; Javier Aquino, Guido Pizarro, Rafael Carioca, Luis Quinones; Enner Valencia; Andre-Pierre Gignac

PUMAS UNAM

  • Pumas suffered their first defeat of the Clausura campaign the last time out in a 2-1 home loss to Monarcas Morelia, but that shouldn’t take anything away from their impressive start to the season. They sit in third place of the standings with 14 points and are just two points off first place while also posting the competition’s best scoring record (16 goals).
  • Centre-back Nicolas Freire has resumed training but while he’s fit again, he needs to regain match fitness to return to league action. Striker Carlos Gonzalez has been listed as questionable due to an undisclosed injury and if he doesn’t play Juan Dinenno could take his place in the lineup.

Expected starting XI: Alfredo Saldivar; Alan Mozo Rodriguez, Luis Quintana, Manuel Mayorga, Johan Vasquez; Marco Garcia (Juan Pablo Vigon), Andres Iniestra; Favio Alvarez, Pablo Barrera, Sebastian Saucedo; Carlos Gonzalez (Juan Dinenno)

THE PREDICTION

Tigres have the edge of playing at home but that’s where the advantages end for them since they have been extremely inconsistent in the 2020 Clausura campaign so far and have dropped three of their last four Clausura matches. Pumas might be coming off a loss, but they currently own the league’s best scoring records – a league-high 16 goals scored – while netting 2.67 goals per away fixture. Pumas look the clear-cut favourite due to their form, consistency, and overall record during the 2020 Torneo Clausura.
