THE TEAM NEWS
TIGRES UANL
- Tigres UANL began their season with back-to-back disappointing results after failing to win a game or even score a single goal in their first two matches. They come into this game on the back of a 1-0 away loss to Club America but they are on a five-game undefeated streak at home in regular season play (W2, D3) and they have conceded just seven goals in 10 home outings during the entire 2019-20 campaign.
- Tigres could be without their best player in this matchup, as star forward Andre-Pierre Gignac missed last week’s contest and he will be a game-time decision. Luis Quinones and Jose Francisco Torres are both long-term absentees for Tigres and despite Rafael Carioca carrying a knock, he is expected to play.
Expected starting XI: Nahuel Guzman; Luis Alfonso Rodriguez; Hugo Ayala, Diego Reyes, Jesus Dueñas; Rafael Carioca, Guido Pizarro; Javier Aquino, Eduardo Vargas, Nicolas Lopez; Enner Valencia
ATLAS
- Atlas suffered a defeat in their previous match – 1-0 at home against Puebla – but they began their Clausura campaign with a road win at Cruz Azul. Winning on the road has been quite difficult for Atlas this season having posted a W4, D2, L4 mark away from Estadio Jalisco dating back to the 2019 Torneo Apertura.
- Atlas will find themselves at full strength entering this matchup, as they do not have any injury concerns or any players who are even doubtful. As such, Atlas will be able to field their best squad available, including new signings such as Ignacio Jeraldino and Luciano Acosta.
Expected starting XI: Camilo Vargas; Jose Abella, Hugo Nervo, Ismael Govea, Angel Marquez; Lorenzo Reyes; Ulises Cardona, Jairo Torres, Luciano Acosta, Mauricio Cuero; Ignacio Jeraldino
THE PREDICTION
It is safe to say Tigres have not started their season as strong as they would have liked but if they were looking to deliver a bounce-back performance, they could not have asked for a better opponent. Los Felinos reach their peak of form when playing at home and aside from the fact Atlas tend to struggle when they play on the road, they are also winless in their last five H2H matches against Tigres. The lack of firepower in both offenses should mean this will be a low-scoring affair, but all signs point towards Tigres securing the three points in front of their crowd.
