THE TEAM NEWS
SANTOS LAGUNA
- Santos Laguna are on the rise following their recent run of results – they are coming off a 2-1 away win at Juarez and that pushed their undefeated streak to four games (W2, D2). Los Guerreros are also riding a two-game winning run and have climbed to eighth place on the standings as a result.
- Santos Laguna will be at full strength with the exception of veteran centre-back Hugo Isaac Rodriguez, who was suspended and has been hit with a two-game ban. The rest of the squad has been deemed as fit and available.
Expected starting XI: Jonathan Orozco; Jose Van Rankin, Felix Torres, Doria, Gerardo Arteaga; Fernando Gorriaran, Carlos Orrantia, Ulises Rivas; Brian Lozano, Julio Furch, Eduardo Aguirre
ATLAS
- Atlas are coming off a 2-0 home defeat to Pachuca and this result pushed their losing streak to three games. No team in the Clausura has lost more games than Atlas – five already – and they sit in 17th place of the standings with only six points and 12 goals conceded.
- Jesus Angulo and Anderson Santamaria are both long-term absentees for Atlas, while Jose Abella is suspended after receiving a red card last week. Defensive midfielder Lorenzo Reyes is day-to-day due to an undisclosed injury, and forward Marcelo Javier Correa will be a game-time decision due to a buttocks problem.
Expected starting XI: Camilo Vargas; Ismael Govea, German Conti, Hugo Nervo, Jesus Isijara; Angel Marquez, Edgar Zaldivar, Christopher Trejo, Luciano Acosta, Ulises Cardona; Ignacio Jeraldino
THE PREDICTION
Atlas are seriously depleted on defence ahead of this contest and it’s clear they enter as underdogs, both due to their recent form and the fact the coaching staff will have to find a way to assemble a competitive defensive line. Santos Laguna have not been performing according to pre-season expectations, but they enter this game on the heels of a two-game winning streak and a stretch of four straight Liga MX games without a defeat. Undoubtedly, Santos should be too much for Atlas.
