THE TEAM NEWS

PUMAS UNAM

  • Pumas got off to a strong start this season, but that good run has faded away of late and now they have dropped two straight games following a 3-0 away defeat at Tigres UANL the last time out. They sit in fifth place of the standings with 14 points.
  • Pumas will be without one of their most consistent defenders since Luis Quintana has been suspended, and his place in the starting XI should be taken by Nicolas Freire who returned from injury. The rest of the team shouldn’t change from the one that has been playing in recent weeks.

Expected starting XI: Alfredo Saldivar; Alan Mozo Rodriguez, Nicolas Freire, Johan Vasquez, Manuel Mayorga; Marco Garcia, Juan Pablo Vigon; Favio Alvarez, Pablo Barrera, Sebastian Saucedo; Carlos Gonzalez

AMERICA

  • America have found ways to win games all season long, but that positive streak finally ended last week when they suffered a 3-0 home loss against Necaxa. Las Aguilas ended a four-game winning run with that loss, but they remain at the top of the standings with 16 points.
  • No team in the league is more depleted than Club America, as they might be without up to eight players. Bruno Valdez and Santiago Caseres are injured, while Giovani dos Santos, Henry Martin, Sebastian Caceres, Nicolas Benedetti, Nicolas Castillo and Renato Ibarra are all injured.

Expected starting XI: Guillermo Ochoa; Paul Aguilar, Emanuel Aguilera, Ramon Juarez Del Castillo, Luis Fernando Fuentes; Sebastian Cordova, Jesus Escoboza, Richard Sanchez; Andres Ibarguen, Roman Martinez, Federico Vinas

THE PREDICTION

This game will be an authentic clash of styles – while Pumas UNAM own the league’s best attack with 16 goals scored, America have the stronger defence with only seven goals allowed. That said, the scales should be slightly tipped towards Pumas in this game. They are playing at home, are healthier, and will be able to field their best XI while America have had to play several youngsters and fringe squad members just to assemble a competitive starting lineup. Pumas will take advantage of that to secure the win.
