THE TEAM NEWS

NECAXA

  • Necaxa have played just two matches this season in league play and remain undefeated, notching one win and one draw. They enter this game following a 1-1 home draw against San Luis but they have won just one of their last five matches at Estadio Aguascalientes dating back to the 2019 Torneo Apertura including the play-offs.
  • Centre-back Ventura Alvarado continues to deal with an injury and he does not yet have a return date set yet. Defender Carlos Guzman has also been ruled out due to a broken leg and he’s a long-term absentee for Rayos.

Expected starting XI: Hugo Alfonso Gonzalez; Jose Doldan, Jairo Gonzalez, Rodrigo Noya; Ricardo Chavez, Claudio Baeza, Fernando Arce, Kevin Mercado; Juan Delgado, Juan Quiroga, Maximiliano Salas

PUEBLA

  • Puebla have registered back-to-back 1-0 results to start the season but they accounted for one win and one loss. Their last game was a home against Queretaro and despite winning their first Clausura away match, that was their lone road win in their last six outings (W1, D2, L3).
  • Right-back Jesus Paganoni has been listed as questionable since he’s dealing with a concussion and it remains to be seen whether he will be eligible to play here. Brayan Angulo has been ruled out due to an ankle injury and won’t return until late June at the earliest. Alonso Zamora remains injured and Christian Tabo is suspended but Pablo Gonzalez should return from a one-game ban.

Expected starting XI: Nikolas Vikonis; Jesus Paganoni, Maximiliano Perg, Daniel Arreola, Carlos Rodriguez; Christian Marrugo, Pablo Gonzalez, Osvaldo Martinez; Omar Fernandez, Angel Zaldivar, Cristian Menendez

THE PREDICTION

Necaxa were one of the best teams during the 2019 Apertura and all signs point towards them being a dominant force once again in the Clausura campaign. Puebla have been very inconsistent and tend to struggle defensively when they play on the road, averaging 1.33 goals conceded per game in their last six away matches and Necaxa’s firepower should be enough to see them breeze past Puebla here.
