THE TEAM NEWS

MONTERREY

  • Rayados have been the league’s biggest disappointment in the Clausura since they are winless in six matches thus far, recording three draws and three losses. They are the only team left to secure a win in the Clausura, with their most recent result a 1-1 draw at home against Juarez.
  • Monterrey are close to full strength but two veterans are absent as forward Aviles Hurtado remains sidelined due to a long-term knee issue, while full-back Lionel Vangioni is not expected to return until March at the earliest. Maximiliano Meza is doubtful, but he should be able to start.

Expected starting XI: Marcelo Barovero; Miguel Layun, John Medina, Jose Maria Basanta, Nicolas Sanchez, Jesus Gallardo; Dorlan Pabon, Celso Ortiz, Carlos Rodriguez, Maximiliano Meza; Rogelio Funes Mori

CLUB AMERICA

  • Club America are on the rise and they sit in second place of the standings with 13 points as they are also riding a three-game winning streak. They have lost just once in the Clausura campaign, and they secured a 2-0 win over Atlas the last time out.
  • Las Aguilas will be without Roger Martinez, who remains separated from the club, Nicolas Castillo and Alex Renato Ibarra. The latter two are dealing with injuries and, in Castillo’s case, won’t return for a few more months. Jesus Eduardo Sanchez should return from his red card suspension.

Expected starting XI: Guillermo Ochoa; Paul Aguilar, Bruno Valdez, Emanuel Aguilera, Luis Fuentes; Sebastian Cordova, Renato Sanchez, Fernando Gonzalez; Leo Suarez, Federico Vinas, Andres Ibarguen

THE PREDICTION

Monterrey have been downright awful this season and they are seriously under-performing in the second half of the campaign. America, on the other hand, are one of the best teams in the league and after three straight wins, they are already in midseason form after reaching the Apertura final in the first half of the campaign. America also have the league’s best defence with four goals conceded in only six matches. Monterrey are a tough team based on depth and skill of their squad but they cannot find a win to save their lives now. America should win here rather easily.
