THE TEAM NEWS
JUAREZ
- Juarez are coming off one of their best performances of the season since they clinched a 3-0 away win at Atletico San Luis last week, and they have lost just one of their last five league matches (W3, D1, L1). They currently sit in fourth place of the standings with 14 points.
- Juarez could be close to full strength although Brazilian forward Flavio Santos has been ruled out due to a suspension. Defender Jonathan Lacerda remains questionable but since he’s missed so many games, his chances of playing here could be quite slim.
Expected starting XI: Ivan Vazquez; Israel Jimenez, Maximiliano Olivera, Bruno Romo, Victor Velazquez; Jefferson Intriago, Martin Rabunal; Angelo Sagal, Mauro Fernandez, Diego Rolan; Dario Lezcano
LEON
- Leon are coming off a 2-0 loss to Chivas last week, and that result meant they have now lost two of their last three matches. That said, they still sit in the upper part of the league standings with 15 points out of eight games (W5, L3).
- Leon will be without Yairo Moreno, as the versatile midfielder will miss the next few games with a knock that will keep him sidelined until mid-March. Angel Mena should return from a one-match suspension, while Andres Mosquera remains out.
Expected starting XI: Rodolfo Cota; Fernando Navarro, Miguel Herrera, Osvaldo Rodriguez, William Tesillo; Luis Montes, Jose Rodriguez; Angel Mena; Jean Meneses, Leonardo Javier Ramos, Ismael Sosa
THE PREDICTION
Juarez and Leon have been two of the league’s best teams this season, and there is not much separating either side. Both have won three of their last five Clausura matches, but Juarez seem to have a slim edge when it comes to the peripheral stats since they won a stronger attack (17 goals scored to Leon’s 16) and a better defence (11 goals conceded to Leon’s 12). If we also include the fact that Juarez will be at home here, and that Leon have lost three of their four Clausura away matches, then Juarez could be considered as favourites here.
