THE TEAM NEWS

GUADALAJARA

  • Guadalajara sit at the top of the Clausura standings following the first two weeks of the regular season after their 0-0 draw at Pachuca and they remain the only side to record back-to-back clean sheets thus far in 2020. Chivas will aim to extend their strong run of form here knowing they posted a W5, D1, L3 mark at home during the Apertura.
  • Chivas will be without one of the best players so far in the Clausura as Ernesto Alexis Vega has been ruled out of this game due to a shoulder injury. Oswaldo Alanis has been out for several months already and that is unlikely to change here.

Expected starting XI: Jose Antonio Rodriguez; Gilberto Sepulveda, Jesus Sanchez, Hiram Mier, Miguel Ponce; Fernando Beltran, Jesus Molina; Javier Lopez; Isaac Brizuela, Juan Jose Macias, Carlos Uriel Antuna

TOLUCA

  • Toluca are coming off a big loss against Necaxa at home but they delivered an impressive win on the road against Morelia to start the Clausura campaign. That win away from home was quite unusual if we consider they posted a less-than-ideal W1, D3, L5 road record during the 2019 Torneo Apertura.
  • Toluca should be close to full strength here. Their lone absentee ahead of this matchup will be veteran centre-back Fernando Tobio who has been ruled out for several weeks already due to a niggly injury.

Expected starting XI: Alfredo Talavera; Rodrigo Salinas, Adrian Mora, Anibal Chala, Luis Donaldo Hernandez; Antonio Rios, William, Leonardo Fernandez; Felipe Pardo, Emmanuel Gigliotti, Pedro Alexis Canelo

THE PREDICTION

Toluca struggled on the road all season long while Guadalajara conquered decent results at home and started the Clausura campaign on a strong note. The loss of Alexis Vega might hurt Chivas’ attacking unit but they have enough depth to hold down the fort while he is absent. Guadalajara might see their run of clean sheets come to an end here but they should extend their undefeated record with a win here – even if this ends up being a low-scoring affair. Three of the last five H2H meetings have produced under 2.5 goals in total.
