THE LOWDOWN

MAN CITY

After the disappointment of losing to Arsenal in the Community Shield, Man City opened their Premier League campaign with a resounding 0-3 win at Burnley on Friday, although the victory was marred somewhat by the injury sustained by Kevin De Bruyne, who is set to miss at least four months of action.

Man City are of course contesting their first ever UEFA Super Cup match after they finally clinched the Champions League title last season, although Pep Guardiola has won this trophy three times previously – twice with Barcelona and once with Bayern Munich.

SEVILLA

It was a disappointing start to season for Sevilla, with Jose Mendilibar’s side suffering a late defeat to Valencia, but the cup specialists will likely have had one eye on this encounter.

The Spanish outfit are no strangers to this occasion with this being their fifth UEFA Super Cup appearance in the last ten years, although they have been on the losing end the last five times they have contested this match.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN CITY

Concussion rules Ruben Dias out for a second successive game, although John Stones is in the squad and has a chance of featuring after he missed the win against Burnley.

Bernardo Silva misses out through injury, which could see Phil Foden occupy the right flank with Jack Grealish coming in on the left.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Gvardiol, Ake; Kovacic, Rodri; Foden, Alvarez, Grealish; Haaland

UNAVAILABLE: Dias (Concussion), De Bruyne (Injured), Bernardo (Illness)

QUESTIONABLE: Stones (Injured)

SEVILLA

Loic Bade received his marching orders over the weekend, but his suspension does not cover this competition so the centre-back is available for selection, while fellow defenders Tanguy Nianzou and Marcao are out injured at present.

Mendilibar may opt for the same line-up as the weekend, but he does have options should he wish to make a change or two.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ortega; Navas, Bade, Gudelj, Acuna; Sow, Rakitic; Ocampos, Suso, Lamela; En-Nesyri

UNAVAILABLE: Nianzou (Injured), Marcao (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

After losing the Community Shield recently, Pep Guardiola will not want to see another trophy slip out of their grasp and there is no doubting his side’s desire to add the UEFA Super Cup to their trophy cabinet. As always in European competition, Sevilla will be no pushovers and will relish being the underdog here, but Man City – even with the absence of key creator Kevin De Bruyne – have to be considered favourites. For extra value, consider backing the Premier League side to keep Sevilla scoreless on their way to victory.
