VENEZIA PREVIEW: NAÏVE VENETIANS

Despite gaining promotion last season via the Serie B playoffs, Antonio Conte disciple Paolo Vanoli departed the club for Torino with the Venetians taking a punt on former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco, who was relegated with Frosinone on the final day of last season.

With his very attacking and front foot style of football, Venezia are trying to become effective at both ends of the pitch but last weekend saw them annihilated at San Siro. They lost 4-0 to a previously winless AC Milan with all four goals coming inside the first 30 minutes of the match. The home team have now managed to collect just a solitary point from their opening four matches.

GENOA PREVIEW: GENIUS OF GILARDINO AT GENOA

Despite the ongoing issues of ownership group 777 Partners, Genoa have enjoyed a really impressive start to the season under the management of 2006 FIFA World Cup winning striker Alberto Gilardino. Despite the sales of Albert Gudmundsson and Mateo Retegui in the summer, they have found a way to be competitive and effective in these early stages of the season.

The Genovese come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw against Roma which subsequently led to the Romans parting company with club legend Daniele De Rossi from the dugout. They have also shared a draw with defending champions Inter in Genoa this season as they begin the season with five points from four games.

VENEZIA TEAM NEWS: ADDITIONAL HEADING HERE

After joining on loan from Juventus this summer, young midfielder Hans Nicolussi Caviglia remains sidelined for Venezia this weekend due to suspension for two matches.

As well as Caviglia, there are also some doubts over the involvement of Icelandic international Bjarkar Steinn Bjarkason still not fully fit.

PREDICTED XI (5-4-1): Joronen; Candela, Schingtienne, Svoboda, Idzes, Zampano; Oristanio, Duncan, Raimondo, Busio; Pohjanpalo

UNAVAILABLE: Caviglia (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Bjarnason (Injured)

GENOA TEAM NEWS: DEFENSIVE INJURIES

There is quite a bit of frustration for Genoa and Alberto Gilardino to deal with this weekend with several new signings unavailable for the visitors due to injury.

Summer arrivals such as Alessandro Zanoli and Brooke Norton-Cuffy are sidelined in defence, whilst Fabio Miretti and Junior Messias are also doubts.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Gollini; Vogliacco, De Winter, Johan Vasquez; Sabelli, Thorsby, Badelj, Frendrup, Caricol; Pinamonti, Ekuban

UNAVAILABLE: Zanoli (Injured), Norton-Cuffy (Injured), Ankeye (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Miretti (Injured), Junior Messias (Injured)

VENEZIA VS GENOA PREDICTION

Eusebio Di Francesco began to adjust Frosinone’s tactical plan far too late into last season and a positive for Venezia would be that adjustment has been from the off this week. The hosts do, though, still remain one of the weakest sides in Serie A, regardless of their style. Genoa, on the other hand, have turned themselves into being genuinely effective and efficient at the top level and it would be a surprise to see Venezia topple them.
