THE LOWDOWN
UDINESE
Former Crawley Town manager Gabriele Cioffi took charge of Udinese during the November international break but, despite a slight improvement in their performances, the theme of the Friulians’ season has continued: far too many draws with far too few goals scored as they languish down towards the bottom end of the table and very much involved in the Serie A relegation battle.
They did enjoy something of a glut of goals at the start of this calendar year but even those goals came to nothing really with six goals producing just one point from games against Lazio, Fiorentina and AC Milan. They were then beaten 2-0 by Atalanta in Bergamo last weekend and have managed just two victories in 22 matches so far this season as they hover outside of the relegation zone on goal difference at this stage.
MONZA
Monza, under the management of former Juventus winger Raffaele Palladino, are an ambitious club that are aiming to finish in the top seven this season having gained promotion to the top-flight for the first time ever as recently as 2022. They have been a little inconsistent throughout this season but are set to avoid being drawn into any sort of relegation battle as they begin the weekend sitting just six points outside of the top seven and the European spots.
The visitors come into this one on the back of a much-needed 1-0 defeat of Sassuolo with a first-half winner coming from Andrea Colpani. That victory against struggling opposition came after conceding eight goals in two games to Internazionale and Empoli with just one victory in their previous six matches in Serie A.

THE PREDICTION
As mentioned, Udinese did have something of a goal glut at the start of this year, at least in relative terms. Those six goals account for over a quarter of the goals they have scored all season. Only four teams have scored fewer goals than Monza in Italy’s top-flight so far this season so, regardless of the eventual winner, a low-scoring encounter is to be expected.
