THE LOWDOWN
TORINO
Under the management of Ivan Juric, Torino begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table. The Piedmont-based club were beaten 1-0 by Fiorentina in their most recent outing, continuing their inconsistent form which has been let down by some low-scoring form and a lack of goalscoring capabilities.
In their 18 2023/24 Serie A matches so far this season, Torino have managed to score just 15 goals. Only one team, Empoli, have scored fewer than Torino so far this season – despite the fact that Torino are now just four points behind the top seven and potential UEFA Europa Conference League qualification.
NAPOLI
Defending champions Napoli have had a nightmare defence of their Serie A title as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting outside of the top seven and the European qualification spots. Rudi Garcia was sacked during the November international break and now the returning Walter Mazzarri is coming under serious pressure in Naples.
The Neapolitans come into this one on the back of a goalless draw at home to ten-man Monza in their most recent outing before the New Year, last weekend. The visitors have managed just three victories in their last 11 matches across all competitions – including a 4-0 loss at home to Frosinone in the knockouts of the Coppa Italia before Christmas.
THE TEAM NEWS

Perr Schuurs is missing for the visit of Napoli this weekend, whilst both David Zima and Christian N’Guessan are doubts for this one.

THE PREDICTION
Now then, Torino are fine in Serie A. They aren’t going to get dragged down into a relegation battle in Italy’s top-flight but are also, as mentioned, extremely uninteresting to watch for the neutral, despite the intentions of their coach. Napoli are struggling for any rhythm and things just look like they are going to get worse before they get better, especially with Victor Osimhen missing due to suspension. As a result, a low-scoring encounter is likely with a double chance in favour of the home team appearing good value.
