THE LOWDOWN
SASSUOLO
Sassuolo have been generally underwhelming since the appointment of Alessio Dionisi in 2021. They were and would have been expecting to consistently challenge for a top seven finish and European qualification. That has once again been the case this season with performances and results coming against the leading clubs but underwhelming at all other times.
They have managed just three victories in their 11 matches so far this season as they languish in the bottom-half of the table. The hosts’ 2-1 defeat away to Torino last weekend means they have now failed to win a match in 90 minutes in their last six games across all competitions and Dionisi is coming under increasing pressure.
SALERNITANA
Following their promotion to Serie A in 2021, it has been a turbulent time in the top-flight for Salernitana but they have managed to pull through time and again. However, this season looks like it could well be the end of the road after a poor start to the campaign has left them really struggling in the table.
After 11 matches of the campaign, they are rock-bottom and remain winless, having collected four points and scored just six goals so far this season. The hosts come into this on the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Napoli in their most recent outing, making it back-to-back defeats. They have failed to score in five of their last six matches in Italy’s top-flight.

THE PREDICTION
Dramatic underperformance the vast majority of the season, combined with general improvement in the rest of the campaign, has Sassuolo and Alessio Dionisi a little frustrated and coming under increasing pressure. Anything but a victory in this one against a Salernitana side already seemingly destined for the drop and winless having already had two managers this season would perhaps be a step too far for Dionisi. A home win is a must and it is still the expected outcome.
