THE LOWDOWN

SASSUOLO

Sassuolo lost their manager, Roberto De Zerbi, to Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2021 and, based on their form in the last few seasons, it only goes to strengthen De Zerbi’s case for being so good. Sassuolo haven’t lived up to expectations under the management of former Empoli boss, Alessio Dionisi, who won promotion with the Florence club that summer.

Sassuolo remain a forward-thinking mid-table side who should put up more of a challenge for the top seven and the European spots. They now come into this on the back of a 4-2 defeat away to Frosinone; which was almost a cliché of the Dionisi era. So far this season they have managed just one win with four defeats so far.

JUVENTUS

Last year, Juventus were dealt a points deduction which saw them end the season in seventh. UEFA then decided to ban them from the UEFA Europa Conference League for this season. The Old Lady are in a major transitional period, both on and off the pitch, as they seek a top four finish to break back into the UEFA Champions League.

They have started quite well so far this season with seven points collected in three matches before the international break. The visitors now come into this on the back of an impressive 3-1 defeat of Lazio in their most recent outing, last weekend, in Turin. No European football means they have also now had the week off, too.

THE TEAM NEWS

SASSUOLO

Alessio Dionisi will be without just one first-team player for this weekend’s encounter against Juventus with Agustin Alvarez unavailable for the home team.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Cragno; Toljan, Erlic, Tressoldi, Vina; Berardi, Boloca, Henrique, Lauriente; Pinamonti, Bajrami

UNAVAILABLE: Alvarez (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

JUVENTUS

Massimiliano Allegri is dealing with two defensive injuries this weekend with two full-backs, Alex Sandro and Mattia Di Sciglio, out injured.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; McKennie, Miretti, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Vlahovic, Chiesa

UNAVAILABLE: Alex Sandro (Injured), Di Sciglio (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Many would expect and, perhaps even the cynical ones, hope that Juventus fall down the table this season after a summer lacking much transfer activity for a variety of reasons and Allegri not necessarily coping well in his second stint in charge of The Old Lady. They have, though, started well and now face a Sassuolo side that have got used to consistently underperforming and underwhelming under Dionisi. Given all of that, a Juventus victory is expected for this one.

TIP: JUVENTUS TO WIN
