THE LOWDOWN

SALERNITANA

The recent history of Salernitana is a wild one with the Salerno club nearly being administratively relegated from the Italian top-flight on New Years’ Eve in 2021. However, after a late change of ownership, they avoided that fate and were then led to a great escape under the management of Davide Nicola, who has since been sacked, re-appointed and then sacked again.

The home team come into this on the back of a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Torino in their most recent outing, last weekend, following the international break. Paulo Sousa’s reign has started badly with just two points collected in their opening four matches with those two points coming in draws against Roma and Udinese.

FROSINONE

Frosinone gained promotion back to the Italian top-flight last season, under the management of Italian FIFA World Cup winner Fabio Grosso last season. However, Grosso has since been replaced by former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco as they seek to establish themselves comfortably in the top tier of Italian football.

They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the top six and the European qualification spots in the Serie A table. Their most recent outing was an entertaining 4-2 win against Di Francesco’s former club, Sassuolo, meaning they have collected seven points in three matches since defeat to reigning champions Napoli on the opening day of the season.

THE PREDICTION

Salernitana come into this on the back of a really poor start to the season and, despite a few transfer windows seemingly building a squad capable of repeatedly finishing in mid-table, they will be really concerned about their start to the campaign. They now face a Frosinone side that are pushing towards the top end of the table playing a fun and frantic style of football. Given the form of the two sides, a double chance bet in favour of the away team looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – FROSINONE TO WIN OR DRAW
