THE LOWDOWN

ROMA

Jose Mourinho is in his dreaded third season as Roma boss and everyone in world football has an idea of what that might stereotypically mean - and, once again, the implosion is happening. After a turbulent summer, Roma finished with the supposedly marquee signing of Romelu Lukaku but they remain a shadow collectively of what they were around 12-18 months ago.

Roma’s bizarre start to the season continued in midweek as they were hammered by four goals to one away to Genoa. They have managed just one win in their opening six Serie A matches and that victory came against Empoli - where they won 7-0. They remain in the bottom-half and pressure is now growing on Mourinho.

FROSINONE

Frosinone gained promotion to Serie A last season, finishing as Serie B runners’ up behind Genoa. Fabio Grosso, former Italy FIFA World Cup winner, departed as manager and was replaced by former Roma and Sassuolo boss Eusebio Di Francesco with an intent to play a more attacking and front foot style of football in the top-flight.

It has been an impressive return to Serie A for Frosinone and Di Francesco. The visitors’ 1-1 draw with Fiorentina in midweek means that they are now unbeaten since their opening day defeat at home to reigning champions Napoli. They have managed two victories and three draws since that loss.

THE TEAM NEWS

ROMA

Jose Mourinho’s cause is not helped by the fact he is still missing some key players and must now contend with the absence of the injured Chris Smalling.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Patricio; Mancini, Llorente, Ndicka; Nissen, Cristante, Paredes, Spinazzola; Dybala, Pellegrini; Lukaku

UNAVAILABLE: Smalling (Injured), Abraham (Injured), Sanches (Injured), Kumbulla (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

FROSINONE

Abdou Harroui remains on the injury list but Eusebio Di Francesco has the luxury of being able to name an unchanged side for their trip to the capital city.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Turati; Oyono, Okoli, Romagnoli, Marchizza; Brescianini, Barrenechea, Mazzitelli; Soule, Cheddira, Baez

UNAVAILABLE: Harroui (Injured), Gelli (Injured), Kalaj (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Roma playing a newly-promoted side in September at the Stadio Olimpico should be a foregone conclusion, really. However, in this third season in charge, Mourinho’s side are badly struggling and, bar that anomalous annihilation of Empoli, have badly struggled so far this season. Frosinone will go to the capital and play on the front foot, more than capable of exploiting the same defensive issues that Genoa exploited in midweek. Whilst it remains difficult to confidently back against Roma at home, it should well be the case that Frosinone at least score.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
