THE LOWDOWN

ROMA

In his third season in charge of Roma, Jose Mourinho was sacked last month with the Giallorossi sitting in the middle-of-the-table and essentially combusting. They have since appointed club legend Daniele De Rossi on a deal until the end of the season with the 2006 FIFA World Cup winner tasked with implemented an improved style of football.

De Rossi immediately switched the Roma system to a 4-3-3 and whilst performances have remained a touch disjointed, he has overseen two 2-1 victories against struggling opposition. First of all they defeated Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico before goals from Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini helped them defeat bottom-of-the-table Salernitana last weekend.

CAGLIARI

Following their promotion to the top-flight last season, Cagliari would view any means of survival as success so to begin the month of February sitting just inside the bottom three and the relegation places on goal difference will be viewed as completely reasonable at this stage, under the management of former Chelsea and Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri.

The Sardinians come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat at home to Torino in their most recent outing, last weekend. That loss followed a 3-1 loss in the capital city against Frosinone and it does mean that they have now managed just one win in their last eight matches across all competitions with two victories in 12.

THE PREDICTION

Neither of these sides have been overwhelming roaring success stories so far this season but they do both enter the final few months of the campaign with their end of season goals intact. Roma, with new management, begin the weekend sitting fifth in the table and just a point behind fourth placed Atalanta. They now face a Cagliari side that could move all the way up to 14th should results go their way. The visitors will be keen to exploit their opponents’ susceptibility at the back and new style so whilst Roma are favourites, both teams scoring remains likely.

TIP: ROMA TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
