THE LOWDOWN

NAPOLI

Defending champions Napoli have endured an extremely difficult campaign, set to relinquish the title and only just fighting to stay in the top-half of the table. The Neapolitans second manager of the campaign, Walter Mazzarri, is growing under pressure with Jose Mourinho’s recent departure from Roma prompting a lot of speculation about the former Chelsea boss travelling south to Naples.

They come into this one on the back of a goalless draw with Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in their most recent outing, last weekend. Napoli have now managed just two victories in their last eight matches across all competitions with one victory coming in the semi-finals of the Supercoppa Italiana and another against bottom-of-the-table Salernitana.

HELLAS VERONA

After narrowly escaping relegation by winning the end of season relegation playoff against Spezia last season, the appointment of former Lecce boss Marco Baroni was supposed to spark an improvement in the visitors’ fortunes but, once again, they appear destined for another dramatic fight against the drop.

They began the campaign with back-to-back victories, the only other time they had done that they went on to win the league title, before a 14-match unbeaten run of form. The visitors begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places on goal difference.

THE PREDICTION

Napoli have managed just one Serie A victory since mid-December and that win required a dramatic second-half stoppage-time winning goal via Amir Rrahmani to help Napoli come from behind to defeat rock-bottom and Serie B-bound, Salernitana. They face a Hellas Verona side that have recently begun to show signs of improvement with just four defeats in their last ten matches in Serie A and three of those losses coming against teams in the top seven. Verona will go to Naples expecting to be able to score, even if Napoli do remain favourites.

TIP: NAPOLI TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
