THE LOWDOWN
NAPOLI
Reigning champions Napoli have endured a really difficult defence of the Italian title with their best hope in the remaining month or so of this campaign being to cling on to a spot in the top seven and European qualification. The Neapolitans, already onto their third manager of the campaign, will be desperately coasting to the finish line.
Francesco Calzona, who will be coaching Slovakia at UEFA EURO 2024, has followed Walter Mazzarri and Rudi Garcia in failing to get a consisting tune out of his side. They did, though manage an impressive and much-needed 4-2 victory over an improving Monza side in their most recent outing, last weekend.
FROSINONE
Immediately after gaining promotion to the top-flight last season, Frosinone took the decision to sack their manager Fabio Grosso and replace him with former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco. The Romans have played in a typically Di Francesco manner this season with a front foot, aggressive, attacking style but it has been undermined by a terrible run of form in the last few months.
The visitors begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the bottom three and the relegation places. They are now winless in their last ten matches since defeating Cagliari in mid-January. They did, though, enjoy an impressive result last time out as they held high-flying Bologna to a goalless draw.
THE TEAM NEWS
NAPOLI
Napoli attacker Cyril Ngonge is unavailable for Napoli through suspension for this weekend’s visit of Frosinone, whilst defender Mathias Olivera will likely be missing through injury.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Juan, Rui; Anguissa, Lobotka, Traore; Politano, Raspadori, Kvaratskhelia
UNAVAILABLE: Ngonge (Suspended)
QUESTIONABLE: Olivera (Injured)
FROSINONE
Anthony Oyono and Simone Kalaj are out injured for Frosinone this weekend as they travel to Naples, whilst Abdou Harroui is also a doubt.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Turati; Okoli, Romagnoli, Bonifazi; Zortea, Mazzitelli, Barrenechea, Valeri; Soule, Reinier; Cheddira
UNAVAILABLE: Oyono (Injured), Kalaj (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Harroui (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
We should have quite a fun and entertaining encounter down in Naples. Francesco Calzona, the former assistant to Maurizio Sarri, plays a front foot and attacking style of football and Napoli will aim to get after Frosinone as a result of that. Frosinone’s 31 Serie A matches so far this season have consisted of 99 goals. Napoli are the firm favourites for this one, especially with home advantage, but it should still be a high-scoring encounter.
TIP: NAPOLI TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
