THE LOWDOWN
LAZIO
It was a fairly turbulent summer in Rome with Maurizio Sarri coming under a fair bit of pressure, especially after expressing his displeasure at the work done in the summer transfer window. They began the campaign very slowly after finishing as Serie A runners’ up last year but there had been an improvement in results over the last month or so but with a very different and far more reactive, controlling style of football.
The home team come into this one on the back of a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Internazionale in their most recent outing, last weekend, in the semi-finals of the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia. Prior to that loss they were unbeaten in five matches across all competitions and they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the top six and just a point outside of the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualification spots.
NAPOLI
Defending champions Napoli head to the capital city this weekend to see if they can begin a run of form that salvages any sort of pride from the final few months of the season. The Neapolitans, under the management of Luciano Spalletti, won their third ever Scudetto last season but are now battling down in the middle-of-the-table and they are already deliberating over the future of their second manager of the post-Spalletti era with Walter Mazzarri, who replaced Rudi Garcia in the November international break, under major pressure.
The visitors come into this one on the back of suffering a 1-0 loss to Internazionale in the final of the Supercoppa Italiana in Riyadh last month. That defeat means they have managed just six victories in their last 17 matches across all competitions as they struggle for any consistency or form this season. It has been a generally miserable campaign.
THE TEAM NEWS

NAPOLI
Both Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Victor Osimhen are away at the Africa Cup of Nations, whilst Jens Cajuste, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giovanni Simeone are out suspended.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Gollini; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Juan Jesus; Zerbin, Lobotka, Demme, Mazzocchi; Politano, Raspadori, Lindstrom

QUESTIONABLE: Mathias Olivera (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
As mentioned, Lazio are having to play a slightly more functional style of football than Sarri would have ideally wanted in order to mount a challenge for the top four places. They face a Napoli side that have several absentees, especially key men in attack, so, regardless of the match result, a low-scoring encounter is to be expected.
