Prior to the season, both of these sides would have expected to be battling against relegation this season and it has been an iffy start to the campaign for both of them with this now being quite a crucial clash at the Bentegodi this weekend.

HELLAS VERONA PREVIEW: THE START THEN THE DECLINE

Last season, due to the Italian financial police seizing the assets of Hellas Verona’s owners, the club were forced to sell several players in the January transfer window. They then produced a miracle to survive under the management of Marco Baroni but he departed in the summer for Lazio with Paolo Zanetti replacing him.

Zanetti began his reign with two victories and a defeat in their opening three matches. However, Verona now come into this one on the back of three successive losses with the previous two defeats both being by three goals to two with Verona having a man sent off at key points of the match.

VENEZIA PREVIEW: GROWING INTO THE SEASON

Venezia gained promotion back to Serie A last season under the management of Paolo Vanoli but the Antonio Conte disciple departed the club for Torino this summer. He was replaced by former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco, who oversaw Frosinone’s final day relegation last year.

The Venetians will have to implement the attacking and quite naïve style of Di Francesco this season. They have begun with one victory, one draw and four defeats in their opening six matches as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the bottom three and the relegation places.

HELLAS VERONA TEAM NEWS: SUSLOV SUSPENDED

As mentioned, Verona have picked up a couple of red cards recently so defender Pawel Dawidowicz is sidelined alongside attacking midfielder Tomas Suslov.

As well as those absentees, Verona also remain without the likes of Juan Manuel Cruz, Abdou Harroui and Faride Alidou with Suat Serdar also still a doubt.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Montipo; Tchatchoua, Daniliuc, Coppola, Frese; Silva, Belahyane; Livramento, Kastanos, Lazovic; Tengstedt

UNAVAILABLE: Dawidowicz (Suspended), Cruz (Injured), Harroui (Injured), Alidou (Injured), Suslov (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Serdar (Injured)

VENEZIA TEAM NEWS: NO NEED TO CHANGE

Performances have improved as the season has gone on for Venezia and with no fresh injury issues or suspension concerns there would appear no reason to change things.

Defender Giorgio Altare remains sidelined for the Venetians ahead of this one, whilst midfielder Alfred Duncan is also a doubt alongside Bjarkar Bjarkason.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Joronen; Candela, Svoboda, Idzes; Zampano, Caviglia, Busio, Haps; Ellertsson, Oristanio; Pohjanpalo

UNAVAILABLE: Altare (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Dunccan (Injured), Bjarkason (Injured)

HELLAS VERONA VS VENEZIA PREDICTION

Both of these sides will be a little concerned that this is an early season six-pointer at the Marcantonio Bentegodi. Hellas Verona have shown they can start seasons well, like this one, before majorly drifting, but they have been undone by close contests and red cards of late. Venezia and Di Francesco are slightly more rigid than expected but still remain leaky at the back and a home win would appear the likeliest outcome for this one.
