HELLAS VERONA PREVIEW: FAIRTYTALE IN VERONA

In January, the Italian financial police seized the company that owns Hellas Verona and that led to them being forced into the sale of 12 first-team players. Marco Baroni, though, performed miracles to lead them comfortably away from relegation but he left for Lazio in the summer and the job of being a miracle worker is now for former Empoli boss Paolo Zanetti.

Zanetti’s reign began in remarkably impressive fashion at the Marcantonio Bentegodi as they hammered the 2023 Serie A winners Napoli by three goals to nil in emphatic fashion. Two new signings got on the scoresheet, too, with Dailon Livramento and then a brace scored by Daniel Mosquera.

JUVENTUS PREVIEW: THIAGO MOTTA’S BIANCONERI

Last season, Thiago Motta did extremely well to lead Bologna to a fifth placed finish and UEFA Champions League qualification. However, the former Italy international took the decision to leave and join the new project that had got underway in Turin with Juventus looking to become a more modern and progressive side.

On the opening day, there were plenty of positive signs and real encouragement for the new era, albeit against poor opposition in Como. Still, though, Juve were impressive and ran out as 3-0 winners with Samuel Mbangula getting a debut goal before strikes from Timothy Weah and Andrea Cambiaso to complete the rout.

HELLAS VERONA TEAM NEWS: SUAT SERDAR BLOW

Right upon the eve of the season, Paolo Zanetti was dealt a frustrating and fairly big blow as defensive midfielder Suat Serdar was ruled out with a muscle injury.

As well as Serdar, Verona are also missing Juan Manuel Cruz but beyond that there are not too many other concerns so Zanetti will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this one.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Montipo; Dawidowicz, Coppola, Frese; Tchatchoua, Duda, Harroui, Lazovic; Kastanos, Daniel Mosquera, Dailon Livramento

UNAVAILABLE: Juan Manuel Cruz (Injured), Serdar (Injured)

JUVENTUS TEAM NEWS: INJURY ISSUES FOR THIAGO MOTTA

There are quite a few issues for Juventus to deal with as they travel to the fair city of Verona with new signing Khepren Thuram suffering a hamstring injury and is sidelined alongside fellow midfielder Arthur, who is suspended.

As well as Thuram, though, Juve will be missing a goal scorer from last weekend in United States international Timothy Weah, who has also suffered a hamstring injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Cambiaso, Gatti, Bremer, Juan Cabal; Locatelli, Douglas Luiz; Yildiz, McKennie, Mbangula; Vlahovic

UNAVAILABLE: Arthur (Suspended), Thuram (Injured), Miretti (Injured), Weah (Injured), Adzic (Injured)

HELLAS VERONA VS JUVENTUS PREDICTION

Paolo Zanetti appears to have tactically tweaked his philosophy over the summer with a much more attacking line-up from Verona against Napoli which included Darko Lazovic as a wing-back and Ondrej Duda playing a two-man midfield. Given that Juventus will seek to play a similarly progressive and proactive way but may have vulnerability with the losses of Thuram and Weah, a high-scoring and entertaining clash could be in store on Sunday.
