GENOA PREVIEW: GILARDINO’S GENIUS IN GENOA

Genoa have 777 Partners as their owners and all over the world the American-led ownership group have encountered problems with their other clubs and that is also the case in Italy. But, for now, their performances on the pitch remain distraction enough for most as they begin this season with a win, a draw and a defeat.

Their opening game of this season was an entertaining 2-2 draw with defending champions Internazionale in a game in which they scored a second-half stoppage-time equaliser. They then defeated Monza by a goal to nil away from home before suffering a 2-0 loss to an impressive looking Hellas Verona side.

ROMA PREVIEW: ROMAN RUINS

Following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho in January, Daniele De Rossi enjoyed an Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United-esque run of form in which the club legend propelled them up the table and deep into Europe but the Giallorossi faded in both Serie A and the UEFA Europa League before the end of the campaign.

He was still given the job on a permanent basis despite his only other managerial role being a bad spell at SPAL and things have started poorly this season. A historic and infamous loss at home to Empoli in August sandwiched underwhelming and fortunate draws away at both Cagliari and Juventus.

GENOA TEAM NEWS: FRUSTRATING INJURIES

Frustratingly for Genoa, the home team have quite a few injury concerns for this weekend including new signing Brooke Norton-Cuffy, who joined from Arsenal on a permanent deal.

As well as Norton-Cuffy, Alessandro Zanoli remains unavailable for Genoa with key loanees Fabio Miretti and former Crotone man Junior Messias both doubtful, too.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Gollini; Vogliacco, De Winter, Johan Vasquez; Sabelli, Junior Messias, Badelj, Frendrup, Caricol; Pinamonti, Vitinha

UNAVAILABLE: Zanoli (Injured), Bani (Injured), Norton-Cuffy (Injured), Matturro (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Miretti (Injured), Junior Messias (Injured)

ROMA TEAM NEWS: LA JOYA BACK IN

Throughout the summer it seemed as though Paulo Dybala would leave Roma this summer for Al Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League but he remained and must surely be a key man again.

The money splashed out by Roma mainly went on La Liga’s top scorer from last season, Ukraine international Artem Dovbyk, but he is a doubt for this weekend after the international break.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Svilar; Celik, Mancini, Ndicka, Tasende; Cristante, Pisilli; Matias Soule, Pellegrini, Saelemaekers; Paulo Dybala

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Dovbyk (Injured)

GENOA VS ROMA PREDICTION

Genoa came into Serie A playing an attacking style of football and did have some talent up-front last year but then both Albert Gudmundsson and Mateo Retegui departed the club over the summer and that is expected to see the goals dry up in the long-term. Roma may not have Dovbyk available and have managed just two goals in three games with De Rossi chopping, changing and now without the option of Tammy Abraham, too. Under 2.5 goals seems likely.

GENOA VS ROMA TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
