GENOA PREVIEW: GENOVESE IN ADVERSITY

777 Partners remain in charge of Genoa, as well as several other clubs across the world but their failed takeover of Everton as well as several other financial issues have a lot of people quite worried off the pitch – especially after the departures of both Albert Gudmundsson and Mateo Retegui during this summer’s transfer window.

However, on the pitch, under the management of 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino, Genoa started their season by scoring a very late equaliser against defending champions Internazionale on the opening weekend of the campaign before then narrowly defeated Monza by a goal to nil last week.

HELLAS VERONA PREVIEW: THE FAIR CITY

In January, Hellas Verona had to deal with 12 first-team players being sold after Italy’s financial police seized control of the company that owned the club but they remarkably avoided the drop. The man that masterminded their survival, Marco Baroni, has since departed for Lazio but Paolo Zanetti has already got his feet under the table in impressive style.

On the opening weekend, Verona welcomed the 2022/23 Serie A champions Napoli to the Bentegodi and managed to produce an excellent performance that resulted in a 3-0 victory before they then had to deal with the new look and refreshed Juventus last week, which resulted in the same scoreline but in favour of the Bianconeri.

GENOA TEAM NEWS: ISSUES AT BOTH ENDS

With both Albert Gudmundsson and Mateo Retegui departing in attack, Genoa also have plenty of injury issues to deal with defensively ahead of this weekend.

For example, new signing Arsenal defender Brooke Norton-Cuffy is unavailable for this one alongside fellow defensive players Alessandro Zanoli and Mattia Bani.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Gollini; De Winter, Marcandalli, Johan Vasquez; Sabelli, Junior Messias, Badelj, Frendrup, Caricol; Pinamonti, Vitinha

UNAVAILABLE: Zanoli (Injured), Bani (Injured), Norton-Cuffy (Injured), Alan Matturro (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Miretti (Injured)

HELLAS VERONA TEAM NEWS: THE SERDAR ISSUE

After the loss off Tijjani Noslin to Lazio this summer, it has been a surprise to see that Paolo Zanetti has actually opted to play quite an attacking line-up so far this season.

That is also despite the fact that Verona are missing Argentinian attacker Juan Manuel Cruz as well as defensive midfielder Suat Serdar as they head to Genoa this week.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Montipo; Dawidowicz, Coppola, Magnani; Tchatchoua, Duda, Belahyane, Lazovic; Suslov, Daniel Mosquera, Dailon Livramento

UNAVAILABLE: Serdar (Injured), Cruz (Injured)

GENOA VS HELLAS VERONA PREDICTION

What has made Alberto Gilardino successful at this early stage of the season is the defensive and reactive way in which they have played. They have managed to contain teams, albeit their 2-2 draw against Inter was chock full of incident and entertainment. Hellas Verona looked very good when they dismantled against Napoli but, despite the personnel being used, remain a generally limited side in attack so this may not be a thriller for the neutral.

GENOA VS HELLAS VERONA TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
