THE LOWDOWN
FROSINONE
Frosinone were promoted to the top-flight last season, winning automatic promotion as runners’ up to Genoa in Serie B. They came up with Fabio Grosso but the former FIFA World Cup winning full-back has departed. Now under the management of former Roma and Sassuolo manager Eusebio Di Francesco, they are expected to play an enterprising and enjoyable style of football, as is typically the way with modern day coaching in Italian football.
Their transfer window has been a relatively quiet one with the biggest piece of business being the sale of Daniel Boloca to Sassuolo but in return they have received a fee in the region of £3 million as well as three players: Stefano Turati, Abdou Harroui and Riccardo Marchizza. The biggest piece of business is making last season’s top scorer, Samuele Mulattieri, a permanent player following his loan from Internazionale.
NAPOLI
Last season, Napoli won Serie A for just the third time ever and the first time outside of the Diego Maradona era. The Neapolitans romped to the title with Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia forging an attacking partnership for the ages. Unfortunately, though, after such an impressive season, it may well have been a one off with a lot of turnover over the summer.
Manager Luciano Spalletti has departed and is now set to take over as Italy’s new manager. As well as Spalletti, who really was crucial in leading Napoli to the title, they have also lost key centre-back Kim Min-jae to big spending Bayern Munich with Piotr Zielinski also set to depart for the Saudi Pro League. Victor Osimhen looks set to stay but rumours are persisting with regards to Kvaratskhelia’s future.
THE TEAM NEWS
FROSINONE
Throughout his managerial career so far, Eusebio Di Francesco has preferred a 3-4-2-1 formation and the Italian is expected to name that system for this one, too. They will be without midfielder Karlo Lulic for this one due to the Croatian sustaining an ACL injury.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Turati; Szyminski, Romagnoli, Monterisi; Oyono, Mazzitelli, Harroui, Marchizza; Garritano, Caso; Cuni
UNAVAILABLE: Lulic (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
NAPOLI
Former Marseille and Roma manager Rudi Garcia is in charge of Napoli. The Frenchman prefers a 4-2-3-1 system and will likely persist with that, despite the fact that several of Napoli’s very best players, as mentioned, will be unavailable, including Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who is injured.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Natan, Rui; Elmas, Lobotka, Cajuste; Lozano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia
UNAVAILABLE: Anguissa (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
Despite the newly-promoted bounce that Frosinone will get, as well as playing against the reigning champions who are unlikely to be anywhere near as strong as they were last season, this is still expected to be a ‘welcome back to Serie A’ in the harshest possible way sort of match for the home team. Napoli could well be the surprise package this season as the top four, in what is a competitive top-of-the-table, is no certainty but doubters should be put in their box for now with a comfortable win expected for the visitors.
TIP: NAPOLI TO WIN
