Last season, Fiorentina reached the final of both the UEFA Europa Conference League and the Coppa Italia but ended up losing both to West Ham United and Internazionale, respectively. I Viola lost the likes of Igor and Sofyan Amrabat over the summer but retained some key men as well as Vincenzo Italiano as they eye up a top four finish this time around.
The home team come into this on the back of an impressive 3-1 hammering of defending champions Napoli, in Naples, the other week. That victory means the Florence-based outfit have are unbeaten in their last eight matches across all competitions and they are performing that well with an attacking style of football, too.
EMPOLI
Empoli gained promotion to the top-flight under Alessio Dionisi in 2021 but he left for Sassuolo that summer. They replaced him with Aurelio Andreazzoli before moving on to Paolo Zanetti; with both achieving 14th placed finishes. Zanetti’s side struggled at the start of this season and he has now been sacked, replaced by Andreazzoli.
They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places with just four points collected in their opening eight matches, having remarkably managed to score just one goal so far this season. They shared a goalless draw at home to Udinese in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago.

Despite the being the derby of Florence, it is not necessarily a heated rivalry as the two clubs have experienced very different histories. Those histories are actually being reflected in the present day with this one actually seeming like a bit of a foregone conclusion. Fiorentina are one of the stronger sides in the country, up against an Empoli team that have been destined to return to Serie B ever since their promotion two and a half years ago. Especially at the Artemio Franchi, this one should and could well be a comfortable and heavy Fiorentina victory.
