THE LOWDOWN
EMPOLI
In mid-January, Empoli appointed former Crotone and Salernitana miracle working manager Davide Nicola to the Empoli hot seat and he almost immediately began to work his miracles once again. The Florence-based club were in some of the best form in Serie A but actually now come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defat to Internazionale on Easter Monday, continuing a poor run of form.
The home team have been struggling throughout the season with poor stints from Paolo Zanetti and Aurelio Andreazzoli but Nicola has given them a chance. However, that chance is becoming slimmer as their 2-0 loss at San Siro means they have now suffered four successive defeats without scoring in that run.
TORINO
Under the management of Hellas Verona boss Ivan Juric, Torino, who intend to play an easy on the eye and attractive style of football, are performing well sitting in the top-half of the table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures but, despite being easy on the eye and generally effective, they are paradoxically tedious to watch.
Quite remarkably, the Turin-based outfit have scored just 29 goals in their 30 Serie A games so far this season. Only three teams have scored fewer than them this season and yet they are still pushing for a potential top seven or top eight finish and, as a result, that would involve European qualification.
THE TEAM NEWS
EMPOLI
Empoli have several injury concerns for this one as Tyronne Ebuehi is among those sidelined, whilst Alberto Grassi and Gianluca Gaetano are doubts, too.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Caprile; Bereszynski, Walukiewicz, Luperto; Gyasi, Marin, Bastoni, Pezzella; Zurkowski, Cambiaghi; Niang
UNAVAILABLE: Ismajli (Injured), Ebuehi (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Gaetano (Injured), Grassi (Injured)
TORINO
Torino have two definite injury absentees for this weekend, such as Ivan Ilic, whilst defender Koffi Djidji is among those that are doubtful for the trip to Florence.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Tameze, Buongiorno, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Ricci, Linetty, Lazaro; Vlasic; Okereke, Zapata
UNAVAILABLE: Gineitis (Injured), Ilic (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: N’Guessan (Injured), Djidji (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
As mentioned, only three teams have scored fewer goals than Torino so far this season and one of those teams is indeed Empoli. The two sides that will meet on Saturday evening have remarkably combined for just 51 goals between them. Empoli have significantly faded after a bright start to the Davide Nicola reign, whilst Torino are still continuing their pursuit of European football and a low-scoring double chance bet in their favour looks the way to go for this one.
TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE - TORINO TO WIN OR DRAW & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
