COMO PREVIEW: CESC’S COMO

Cesc Fabregas was not officially in charge of Como last season and had to complete his coaching badges over the summer before becoming the head coach with Oisin Roberts being made Head of Development. The former Barcelona midfielder is inexperienced but his playing style is exactly what you would expect from a La Masia and Arsenal academy graduate.

The home team did begin the season with a 3-0 loss in Turin against Juventus but performances have gradually improved ever since and they come into this one on the back of their shock first victory of the season as they travelled to Bergamo in midweek to defeat Atalanta by three goals to two.

HELLAS VERONA PREVIEW: THE FAIR CITY

In January, Hellas Verona were forced to sell pretty much an entire first eleven of players due to financial issues with their ownership but Marco Baroni produced a miracle in the fair city of Verona to keep them up but his departure to Lazio over the summer would have sparked some concern of the inevitable having just been delayed.

The visitors did start the season well with two victories in their opening three matches but have now suffered narrow and frustrating back-to-back defeats, going ahead against Baroni’s Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico before losing by two goals to one and then suffering a 3-2 defeat at home to Torino at the Bentegodi last weekend.

COMO TEAM NEWS: VARANE RETIREMENT

After joining on a free transfer from Manchester United this summer, Raphael Varane suffered an injury almost immediately and a setback this week has provoked his early retirement.

Como remain without defender Federico Barba for this weekend but after a victory last week there appears no reason for them to make any changes for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Audero; Van Der Brempt, Dossena, Kempf, Alberto Moreno; Sergi Roberto, Maximo Perrone; Strefezza, Nico Paz, Fadera; Cutrone

UNAVAILABLE: Barba (Injured)

HELLAS VERONA TEAM NEWS: DAWIDOWICZ SUSPENSION

In that aforementioned defeat to Torino last weekend, Poland international defender Pawel Dawidowicz was sent off after 20 minutes and he is suspended for this one.

They have several issues in midfield, too, with both Tomas Suslov and Ondrej Duda doubtful alongside the confirmed absences of Abdou Harroui and Suat Serdar.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Montipo; Magnani, Coppola, Frese; Tchatchoua, Belahyane, Silva, Lazovic; Kastanos; Tengstedt, Sarr

UNAVAILABLE: Dawidowicz (Suspended), Juan Manuel Cruz (Injured), Harroui (Injured), Serdar (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Duda (Injured), Suslov (Injured)

COMO VS HELLAS VERONA PREDICTION

Cesc Fabregas is in charge of a Como side that will seek to punch at their weight this season because they have spent so much money over the summer that it isn’t an unfair expectation for them to simply comfortably avoid a relegation battle. Verona have suffered back-to-back losses but the performances of both of those matches were not necessarily those of a team that are collapsing. That said, buoyed by victory last weekend and with home advantage for this one, it seems a reasonable bet to side with Como here.
