THE LOWDOWN

CAGLIARI

Following promotion last season, Cagliari have enjoyed a relatively impressive campaign as they continue to battle against the drop. The Sardinians, under the management of former Leicester City and Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri, begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places.

The home team do, though, come into this one on the back of a frustrating 3-1 defeat away to Frosinone in Rome, last weekend. Cagliari did fail to win any of their opening 11 matches so far this season but they have managed four victories in their last ten matches and have been generally entertaining to watch, too, with 56 goals coming in their 21 matches.

TORINO

Under the management of Ivan Juric, Torino have been intent on playing a generally proactive style of football but the Piedmont-based club have actually been fairly underwhelming in attack, albeit difficult to beat. They have scored just 18 goals in 20 matches so far this season with only one team, Empoli, scoring fewer than them.

They come into this one on the back of a goalless draw away to Genoa in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago. That means Torino have suffered just one defeat in their last seven matches in Serie A. Defensively they are very solid with 18 goals conceded and only the top two teams, Juventus and Inter, have conceded fewer than that.

THE TEAM NEWS

TORINO

Torino have a few injury issues for this one, particularly defensively. Both David Zima and Perr Schuurs are among those that are unavailable for their trip to Sardinia.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Djidji, Buongiorno, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Ricci, Ilic, Lazaro; Vlasic; Zapata, Sanabria

THE PREDICTION

This is a game between two sides that have been in steady form throughout the early months of winter, although they occupy very different areas in the Serie A table. Cagliari, as mentioned, are battling the drop, whilst Torino will not have ruled out pushing on and into the top seven and the potential UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying spots. Regardless of the match result, though, a low-scoring encounter appears almost inevitable for this one between two sides that have combined for just 38 goals.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
