A culinary derby takes place this weekend in Serie A as a Bologna side already in transition and struggling to get to grips with that take on an impressive looking but potentially ineffective newly-promoted Parma side.

BOLOGNA PREVIEW: ADAPTATION OF ITALIANO

Last season, Bologna managed to finish fifth in Serie A and qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 60 years with Thiago Motta at the helm. He departed for Juventus and they also sold some key players such as Riccardo Calafiori and Joshua Zirkzee with a shift needed over the summer.

The appointment of former Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano has not gone exactly according to plan with Bologna managing just one victory in their opening eight matches across all competitions so far this season. They come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat at Anfield against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

PARMA PREVIEW: PRETTY PARMA

Following promotion back to the top-flight last season, Parma boss Fabio Pecchia was one of the most sought after coaches in Italian football but he has stayed put and Parma’s performances have been entertaining to watch as well being quite unfortunate to have only produced one win from their opening six matches.

That victory came against AC Milan in the second match day and they have since thrown away leads from seemingly unassailable positions playing a proactive and progressive style of football. The visitors come into this one on the back of a 3-2 defeat at home to Cagliari in their most recent outing.

BOLOGNA TEAM NEWS: KEY ABSENTEES

Colombia international defender Jhon Lucumi is missing through suspension this weekend as a result of a red card he received against Atalanta last weekend.

The home team do still have a couple of other absentees such as Tommaso Pobega and Lewis Ferguson with Oussama El Azzouzi also a doubt for the hosts.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Skorupski; Posch, Beukema, Holm, Lykogiannis; Aebischer, Freuler, Fabbian; Orsolini, Castro, Ndoye

UNAVAILABLE: Jhon Lucumi (Suspended), Pobega (Injured), Ferguson (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: El Azzouzi (Injured)

PARMA TEAM NEWS: SEVERAL ABSENTEES

Parma have been dealing without key Uruguayan defensive midfielder Nahuel Estevez for a few weeks but he is closing in on a return ahead of this weekend’s trip to Bologna.

The visitors do still have a couple of other absentees with ACL injuries to Alessandro Circati and Mateusz Kowalski as well as the absence of Adrian Benedyczak.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Suzuki; Del Prato, Yordan Osorio, Balogh, Valeri; Adrian Bernabe, Hernani; Man, Hainaut, Mihaila; Bonny

UNAVAILABLE: Circati (Injured), Kowalski (Injured), Benedyczak (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Nahuel Estevez (Injured)

BOLOGNA VS PARMA PREDICTION

Bologna have replaced Thiago Motta with a manager that, in his own words, is tactically similar in Vincenzo Italiano. There has been a slight tweak to the system but there is clearly less sophistication to their overall movement. Parma’s six matches have consisted of 22 goals and have been entertaining to watch so this one could be quite entertaining with both teams scoring seeming a good bet for this one.
