THE LOWDOWN

AC MILAN

Coached by Stefano Pioli, AC Milan are not quite involved in the Italian title race after a poor few months during the autumn held them back but they are firmly ensconced in the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualification places ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures – and could put a nail into the coffin of Jose Mourinho at Roma.

The Rossoneri have been underwhelming but they are building up a league table of their own at the moment, seven points adrift of the top two but seven points clear of fifth ahead of this match day. Milan come into this one on the back of three victories and a draw in their last four Serie A matches, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

ROMA

Jose Mourinho has a reputation for having majorly underwhelming third seasons at clubs and he is experiencing a bit of third season syndrome at the Stadio Olimpico, too. The capital city club begin this match day sitting just outside of the top seven and the European spots after a very difficult couple of months.

They come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Lazio in the Derby della Capitale in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia in midweek. That means there is a real chance that Roma miss out on a trophy, once again, without any European football this season. They have just five wins in their last 15 matches across all competitions.

THE PREDICTION

On paper, these are two of Italy’s most famous and strongest sides and clubs but, quite frankly, there is a bit of a gulf between the two. AC Milan have not necessarily been vintage this season but they are hosting a Roma side that may well be getting impatient of the underperformance, in a terrible style of football, by Jose Mourinho and his men. Milan, especially at San Siro, will be firm favourites to grind out a victory in this one.

TIP: AC MILAN TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
