THE LOWDOWN
AC MILAN
There is an expectation that Stefano Pioli will depart AC Milan in the summer with the 2022 Scudetto winner reportedly lined up to take over at Napoli. The Rossoneri are plateauing towards the end of the season with second place more or less secured but being the team that rivals Inter defeated to clinch the title as well as a poor season in Europe as undermined Pioli’s likely final season.
The hosts come into this one on the back of three draws and a loss in their last four matches in Serie A. They most recently shared a thrilling 3-3 draw with Genoa at San Siro last weekend in a game in which Mateo Retegui opened the scoring before Alessandro Florenzo equalised for Milan. Malick Thiaw’s own goal eventually made it three apiece in the 87th minute.
CAGLIARI
In their first season back in the top-flight after their surprise relegation in 2022 but promotion via the Serie B playoffs in 2023, former Leicester City title winning coach Claudio Ranieri has overseen an impressive and competitive campaign from Cagliari as they head into the final few weeks of the season sitting a few points and places outside of the bottom three and the relegation places.
The Sardinians come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Lecce in their most recent outing, last weekend. Yerry Mina opened the scoring for Cagliari after 26 minutes but Nikola Krstovic scored a late equaliser for Lecce and means they are now winless in their last four games with the same record as Milan of three draws and a defeat.
THE TEAM NEWS
AC MILAN
There are a couple of key injury concerns for AC Milan this weekend as goalkeeper Mike Maignan and midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek are unavailable for the Rossoneri.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Sportiello; Florenzi, Gabbia, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Pulisic, Leao; Giroud

QUESTIONABLE:
CAGLIARI
Both Gianluca Gaetano and Tommaso Augello are out suspended for Cagliari this weekend, whilst Nicolas Viola is unavailable through injury.
PREDICTED XI (4-1-2-1-2): Scuffet; Zappa, Mina, Dossena, Hatzidiakos; Makoumbou; Nandez, Deiola; Oristanio; Luvumbo, Lapadula
UNAVAILABLE: Gaetano (Suspended), Augello (Suspended), Viola (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Mancosu (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Milan begin the weekend sitting five points clear of third place so they are expected to secure the runner up spot un this season’s Serie A but it has been generally underwhelming throughout the campaign. Cagliari will travel to the mainland knowing that one victory probably secures their Serie A status for next season. Milan are playing fairly uncoordinated football as Pioli’s reign comes to an end and Cagliari would likely relish a goalless draw so it is unlikely to be thrilling for the neutral this weekend at San Siro.
