THE LOWDOWN

AC MILAN

Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan come into this one on the back of completing their UEFA Europa League knockout playoff tie against Stade Rennais. The first-leg most likely had a major impact on their performance when they returned to domestic action as they were beaten 4-2 by Monza on a famous night.

The Rossoneri got themselves back into that game after going 2-0 down but making it 2-2 mid-way through the second-half. However, Monza scored two goals late on to clinch victory. Milan have pretty much cemented themselves in the top four this season and they have done so in fairly entertaining fashion with 80 goals coming in their 25 matches thus far.

ATALANTA

Atalanta did go into this season with the expectation and anticipating of it being another transitional campaign but Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have been magnificent in the last couple of months as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots.

The Bergamasci come into this one on the back of a 3-0 hammering of Sassuolo, last weekend, with goals from Mario Pasalic, Teun Koopmeiners and Mitchel Bakker to continue their excellent form. They have now enjoyed six successive victories across all competitions with no defeats in their last nine matches.

THE PREDICTION

Sunday evening could have in store a real thriller at San Siro. Atalanta’s excellent run of form started with a 3-2 defeat of Milan in Bergamo in December. They have been free scoring with 35 goals in their last 13 matches across all competitions and now once again make the short trip to Milan, where they defeated the Rossoneri in the cup last month. Milan’s 25 matches so far this season have consisted of 80 goals and a good game for the neutral is to be expected.
