LIBYA PREVIEW: KNIGHTS COME INTO THIS ONE ON THE BACK OF A WIN

Head coach Milutin Micho Sredokevic will have been particularly pleased at the defensively stability shown by his Libyan side in their 1-0 victory over Botswana a few days ago. If they can replicate that here then they stand a great chance of beating Rwanda and getting their group stage campaign off to a good start.

Libya will know the importance of winning against opponents such as Rwanda when taking into account the fact that this group includes Nigeria and their array of stars. But Libya are full of confidence leading into this one.

RWANDA PREVIEW: WINLESS AT THIS STAGE LAST TIME OUT

Rwanda have rarely been afforded much joy when it comes to the Africa Cup of Nations group stage qualifying round and you have to go back to the 2003-04 season for the last (and only) time they qualified for the tournament, emphasising the task ahead for Torsten Spittler.

However, a positive is that they do at least boast a win over Libya in the past, although their opponents have gotten the better of them three times in response across their prior encounters in all competitions.

LIBYA TEAM NEWS: YOUSEF BACK FROM SUSPENSION

Defender Ali Yousef is likely to return to the Libyan backline following his suspension, whilst Omar Al Khouja could get the nod in central midfield over Osama Mukhtar Al Shremi.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Al-Woheshi; Al-Takabali, Yousef, Arteeba, Ali; Al Badri, Al Khouja, Aleiyan; Tabal, Salama, Ekrawa

RWANDA TEAM NEWS: UNCHANGED SIDE A POSSIBILITY

It would be no surprise if Spittler opted to name the same starting XI who overcame Lesotho by a goal to nil back in June. That would mean a 4-3-3 formation with goalscorer Jojea Kwizera a significant threat playing as a wide forward.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Ntwari; Omborenga, Mutsinzi, Manzi, Imanishimwe; Muhire, B Mugisha, Bizimana; Kwizera, Nshuti, G Mugisha

LIBYA VS RWANDA PREDICTION

This may well turn out to be closer game than people originally expect. Torsten Spittler has set his Rwanda side up well and they are not as easy to break down as they used to be prior to his appointment. Libya will need to show a level of patience across the 90 minutes and keep their concentration, avoiding the threat of a counter-attack.

Having said that, Libya look a stronger team on paper and should boast the majority of play. It would be a surprise if they didn’t eventually break down Rwanda and backing them to pick up three points has to be favoured.
