Michael Weiss’ Laos come into this on the back of a slender 1-0 victory against Mongolia last week. That victory followed four successive defeats which had extended their winless run of form to seven matches since 2019. Laos have won just two games in their last 20 matches, in a run that is stretching back to 2017. They now come up against a Brunei side that haven’t played since AFC’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying preliminary round in 2019 when they were beaten 3-2 on aggregate by Mongolia. Laos will be the favourites for this expected-to-be low-scoring encounter, given their home advantage.
